House Tour

We are so proud of our house and are always working on a project to update it so we’d love for you to take a look around and follow us as we tackle each project and try and save the most money we can at the same time!  My apologies for the fuzzy “before” images that I took during a walk through before we bought the house – I’m going to chalk it up to being waaaay too excited to buy the house!

Goulding Home, May 2013

Completed: Took out the huge bushes in the front and added a few decorative items to the porch.

Would like to complete: Get rid of the brown!!  We can’t wait to save up to paint the brown trim to white and to replace the siding with something more like a slate blue.  Shutters will be black and door needs to be MUCH brighter (NC State red or maybe bright yellow?).  I also want to paint the ceiling of the porch a very light blue, like the Charleston houses.

THE KITCHEN

Before (Hello brown!):

Kitchen - BEFORE

A mid-point (was this way for about a year):

After (we re-painted a better green and re-tiled the backsplash with glass tile):

Completed: Painted walls (and repainted walls), painted cabinets, re-tiled the backsplash

Would like to complete: I wouldn’t change much about this space.  Maybe a different mat in front of the sink.  We’d also like to paint our pantry doors white instead of the off-white it is now.

LIVING ROOM

Before:

A midpoint (was this color green for about a year – yes, I know the green is blinding):

After (sorry – this room is SO hard to photograph because there are no windows):

photo (21)

photo (22)

Completed: Painted walls (and repainted walls), built an ottoman, hung artwork and mirror, painted fireplace white, spray painted the mirror.

Would like to complete: We’d like to put white crown molding around the room.  I’d also like to update the fireplace screen with new handles and maybe paint it?

OFFICE/DEN

Before (the office is where my father-in-law is standing.  The room beyond that is the dining room):

Please excuse my blurry husband and father-in-law.

After:

(the first picture is of the wall before we did the built-ins.  It was like this for about 2 years):

Love the chairs and credenza on the right, but that bookshelf was looking REALLY sad!

Completed: Built custom built-ins and painted old furniture white for the room.

Would like to complete: We would eventually like a work space in the center of the room on top of the new rug and we would like a light in the center of the room if we can figure out how to do it.  Also, all the beige trim needs to be painted white.

DINING ROOM

Before (the far room is the dining room):

Please excuse my blurry husband and father-in-law.

Dining Furniture before (not in our house).  Looking back at this, I’m amazed that I thought this would turn out well.  This set looks horrible to me like this:

Bought the whole set for $150 on craigslist! Included 6 chairs, table with leaf, and a lighted china cabinet.

Dining Room & Furniture after:

You can see in the bottom of this one the chair cushions my dad recovered for us.

Thanks to the hubs and my dad for hanging this wallpaper for me.

After we upgraded our chandelier:

photo (20)

Completed: Wall-papered above the chair rail and painted the wall below the chair rail.  Painted the furniture and recovered the dining chairs.  We also changed out the chandelier for a new chrome and glass one.

Would like to complete: One day I’d like to paint the trim in this room white instead of the off-white it is now. Other than that, I love this room the way it is!

GUEST BATHROOM UPSTAIRS

Before:

After:

A close up – I love all of these colors together.

After some upgrades:

photo (42)

Completed: We took down the wallpaper in this room and painted the walls, and in the upgrade photo we changed out the overhead light, overhead fan cover and curtain rod, spray painted the cabinet hardware and vanity light silver, and replaced the shower head.

Would like to complete: I’d like to paint the doors to the washer/dryer white instead of the off-white it is now.  And white crown molding would be great.  I also may want to repaint this room a more subtle green or blue color one day to tone it down.  But I think our kids will love it bright like this.

CORAL GUEST BEDROOM

Before:

“The Coral Room” before it was coral.

A midpoint (was this way for about 2.5 years):

I admit we need larger artwork over the bed…

And now, we moved different furniture into the room and put up new curtains.

photo (5)

photo (6)

Completed: Painted walls.  Hung new curtains, moved better furniture into the room.

Would like to complete: This room is pretty good as is.  I’d like to get a better situation for the tv though – I don’t like it sitting on that little white table.

YELLOW GUEST BEDROOM

Before:

Looking down the hall and into the yellow guest bedroom. I wanted you to see that border across the top of the room. Hot, right?

A midpoint (was this way for about 2.5 years):

After.  Moved new furniture into this room, hung curtains from another room, and mounted a tv on the wall for more space.

photo (4)

Completed: Took down the border and painted the room.  Painted the furniture white.  Hung window treatments. Mounted TV on the wall.

Would like to complete: I’d like to get a thin piece of furniture to hide those ugly cords coming from the tv and I think I’d like bigger artwork over the bed one day.  Also, would like to put a new, larger headboard on the bed.

RED GUEST BEDROOM

We don’t really have a “before” picture, but it’s the one room in the house we didn’t paint so it didn”t look that different from this first picture.

A midpoint (was this way for about 2.5 years):

After:

NxU2tH_4MLY8Vsfv9o1R9c6lO4WSdFUsnkUGPjdk-GU,5drjv9koA0tpNKnoDKMOlypq3PBQyR7B8HbshQQem3w

Completed: We painted the room, hung new curtains, artwork, and moved some furniture in here from another room.

Would like to complete: I’d like to add white crown molding.

MASTER BEDROOM

Before:

After:

photo (16)

photo (17)

Completed: We painted, hung curtains and artwork.  We also painted Aaron’s dresser and a tv cabinet white.

Would like to complete: We are pretty happy with this room the way it is.  The only thing I would change is maybe putting bolder curtains up.

MASTER BATHROOM

Hello Wallpaper!!!

Hello Wallpaper!!!

A midpoint (was like this for about 2.5 years):

Goodbye wallpaper!

Would love to one day do a glass shower in place of this gold one with glass subway tile. And, that’s Abby’s cage 🙂

Water Closet

Vanity After:

photo (30)

Completed: Took down the wallpaper and painted.  We also added some artwork.  We have also updated two light fixtures to be chrome ones, painted the vanity white, changed out the gold toilet paper holder for a chrome one and added chrome vanity hardware and a chrome mirror on the right.

Would like to complete: We would like to change out the gold fan for a chrome one, change out all the remaining gold fixtures for chrome ones.  And, we’d eventually like to put in a glass shower in place of the gold sliding door one with white subway tile.

MASTER CLOSET

Before:

After:

Aaron built this all for me. The sides you don’t see also have racks on them too. Lots of space for clothes!
